Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are made of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, linked up to create an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is raised vertically. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile that is ideal for hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These equipment use either a combustion engine or electric motor in order to move the lift and power the lifting apparatus. The operator must move the lift itself if he or she needs to travel horizontally, as the lift mechanism just operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the same lifting technology as a typical scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is specifically designed for surfaces which are uneven. These units also offer oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain without problems.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be raised both vertically and diagonally. This model has a small work platform that houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics that move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting equipment has a small work platform or a bucket which is outfitted with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are designed in order to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast so as to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Normally, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled machines. These machinery provide an ideal solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is really vital to remember that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
